The route plan is a written artefact agreed before the task: stops, timings, vehicle positioning, crew roles and the control room contact schedule. Dynamic risk assessment is a repeated mental loop - observe, assess, decide, act, then review - that runs continuously from departure to return. The plan tells you what was expected; the dynamic assessment tells you what is actually in front of you. Confusing them produces a specific error: treating the existence of an approved plan as permission to proceed regardless of what you can see.
Train each concept with a different exercise because they are different skills. Learn plan components by drafting route cards for a fictional two-stop collection, forcing you to state vehicle position, movement path and check-in points for each stop. Train dynamic risk assessment by injecting disruptions into those same cards - a blocked bay, an unfamiliar person near the door - and writing down what changes in your decision. This pairing matters because the qualification's topic areas cover both planned and live decision-making, and your answers must show which one a given situation calls for.
Worked Scenario: When a Delivery Point No Longer Looks Safe
If a stop presents an unexpected risk - loitering with no legitimate purpose, a blocked bay, an altered environment - the defensible decision is to hold or withdraw and report, not to complete the task because the schedule says so.
Scenario: you arrive at a retail client's service door for a scheduled collection. Two individuals are standing close to the door; one is on a phone and appears to watch your vehicle as you pull up. Your plan is approved, the timing is tight, and the next stop is a long drive away. The plausible mistake is to proceed anyway, rationalising that they could be staff on a break and that the schedule will absorb the delay if you hurry. The error is structural: the static plan could not have anticipated these individuals, so it cannot authorise a decision about them. If you go ahead while uneasy, the schedule made the decision, not your assessment.
The better decision follows the assessment loop. Withdraw to a safe distance where you can observe without being committed, assess whether the individuals' behaviour resolves, and contact the control room with your location, what you can see and a description, awaiting instruction. Afterwards, document the observation and the decision so the route can be reviewed. This matters for two reasons: personal safety outranks task completion, and the record is what allows the plan to be corrected. Note the limits of the example - the exact actions depend on your employer's procedures, so treat this as a decision structure to apply, not a universal script.

Vehicle Security and the Vehicle-to-Premises Movement
The highest-exposure moments in CVIT work are transitions: opening the vehicle, moving the case, crossing to the premises. Study these as procedures with defined roles, positioning and communication, not as quick walks.
Treat the vehicle as a protective envelope with rules attached. When parked for a movement, the taught pattern is that the vehicle is secured, the case is handled under a defined sequence, and the vehicle is positioned to limit how easily the loading can be observed. Where a crew operates, roles are divided - one officer may remain with the vehicle while the other makes the movement - whereas a single-officer movement has to solve both problems at once. Understand why each rule exists: an unattended vehicle and an unattended case are each a separate vulnerability, so the procedure has to account for both at every moment.
Study this on paper before you try to recall it in words. Sketch the movement for a fictional stop: mark the vehicle's position relative to the entrance, the officer's path, the sightlines onto the case, and the door and lock sequence. Then compare your sketch against how your training materials describe single-officer and crew movements, and write down where the two versions differ and what the difference protects - coverage of the case versus observation of the approach. A diagram makes gaps obvious in a way that re-reading a paragraph does not, and you can re-test yourself by redrawing it from memory a day later.
Robbery and Attack Response: Why Compliance Is the Taught Default
Cash and valuables are insured and replaceable; personnel are not. The taught default in a violent or armed attack is compliance with demands, prioritising life, followed by observation, reporting and post-incident duties - never resistance or pursuit.
Learn the reasoning, not just the rule, because the reasoning is what makes the rule stick under pressure. Confrontation escalates harm to you and to anyone nearby, and the assets can be recovered or claimed, so the procedure weights life above the consignment. Compliance in this context is not passivity: it means following demands without sudden movements, handing over what is demanded, and activating any alarm only at a moment when doing so cannot make the situation worse. Study the conditions around alarm use carefully - the timing of activation relative to the offenders' presence is exactly the kind of conditional detail that a simplified summary flattens.
Convert the aftermath into a checklist you can reproduce from memory. Observation categories to memorise include the number of offenders, clothing, approximate height and build, any weapons seen, the direction and mode of departure, any vehicle used, and the words spoken. Post-incident duties to memorise include preserving the scene so far as safe, accounting for all personnel, reporting to the police and the control room, and completing incident documentation. A practical drill: write the blank template from memory, then fill it in from a described scenario in a practice question, and note every category you left blank.
Communication and Control Room Discipline During a Task
Every CVIT movement runs on a communication schedule with the control room: check-ins at defined points, immediate reporting of exceptions, and agreed codes or phrases. Study communication by studying what triggers an out-of-schedule call.
Map the routine traffic first. A typical schedule covers departure confirmation, arrival at each stop, completion, and the return leg - the exact points come from the operating procedure, but the principle is universal: the schedule exists so that silence becomes a signal. If an expected check-in does not arrive, the control room initiates the contingency because a missed call is treated as information, not as an oversight. Once you understand that design purpose, the schedule stops being a list to memorise and becomes a system you can reason about, including what happens on your side when communications equipment fails mid-task.
Then train the exception side, which is where definitions need precision. Deviation from the planned route, a vehicle defect, suspicion that you are being followed, equipment failure and unexpected persons at a stop are the kinds of events that justify breaking the schedule. Exercise: list ten plausible on-task events of your own invention and classify each as routine traffic, an exception report, or an emergency call, with one line of justification for each. Any event where you hesitate, or where your justification is vague, points to a definition you have not learned precisely enough - go back to that specific definition rather than re-reading the whole topic.
Handling, Seals and Reconciliation: Closing the Chain of Custody
Reconciliation is the process proving that what was collected is what was delivered, untouched and accounted for: seal checks, manifest matching, signatures and discrepancy reporting. Discrepancies are recorded and reported, never silently corrected.
Name the elements precisely in your notes. Unique seal numbers are checked against the documentation at each handover; the physical condition of seals and containers is inspected; each transfer of responsibility is acknowledged by signature or an equivalent electronic record; and the manifest serves as the master record of what the task should contain. Together these create a chain of custody: every transfer point is a documented handover from one responsible party to the next. The practical implication is that your records must be correct at the first link, because every later link inherits whatever the first link established.
Second worked scenario: at a client collection, the bag's seal number does not match the manifest, and the client is insistent, apologetic and in a hurry, with a queue building behind you. The plausible mistake is to accept the bag and resolve the paperwork after the run, reasoning that the seal is probably just a misprint. The better decision is to not accept the consignment, record the discrepancy exactly as observed, notify the control room, and follow the escalation contact in the procedure. Why it matters: accepting a mismatched bag makes your documentation wrong from the start, so any later loss becomes unattributable - and you would carry responsibility for a defect you noticed but recorded nowhere.
A Two-Week Study Sequence with a Decision-Drill Rubric
Structure preparation as procedures first, decisions second, recall third: build route-card and procedure notes, drill injected disruptions against them, then test blank-page recall of checklists. Use the rubric below as a study milestone, not a pass prediction.

A consistent four out of four across varied drills is a reasonable learning milestone - it measures drill performance only and does not predict any exam outcome.
